BSOH Seminar - Journée d'étude - Studiedag

Theme
Back to basics.
For its next seminar on May 16, 2025, the BSOH is honored to invite you to a feedback or a discovery on the basic themes of occupational hygiene. During this seminar you will have the opportunity to discuss with our speakers not only about chemistry topics but also about biology and physics.

Our goal is therefore to offer you a return to the sources of your respective expertise but also to discover other points of view in the field of occupational hygiene.

Beyond a more traditional expert speaking, our desire is here more clearly to open the doors of our disciplines to a large panel of safety advisors . And why not be tempted by a more complete training or PDCs from the BSOH.

The BOSH Committee hopes to see many of you again and to spend a moment of convivial exchanges.

PHYSICAL AGENTS: Laser safety: from theory to practice
This presentation will define first of all the basic concepts of laser functioning and beam properties, highlighting the differences with other light sources. Continuing the possible interactions of the laser beam with the environment (objects, background, and the human body) the fundamentals of laser safety will be tackled as well as the challenges faced when using lasers that are inherently unsafe. The presentation will provide some insights on laser safety risk analysis and personal protection equipment. Last but not least, some laser safety case studies will be discussed.

BIOLOGICAL AGENTS: The presence of molds in indoor environments
Most people spend most of their time indoors. It is important for our health that indoor air is free of microbiological pollutants such as molds and their metabolites (allergens, mycotoxins, microbial volatile organic compounds,...). If not, health problems may arise. Our unit has more than 20 years of experience in carrying out measurements in order to trace the presence of molds to remedy those health problems.
